Andrew Gillum’s ascent to his current role as the Mayor of Tallahassee and Democratic nominee for Governor can be directly attributed to his bold leadership and visionary policy agenda – particularly as it relates to promoting black economic progress. During his first term, he plans to invest in key black economic priorities like higher wages, job and technical training, and a public education system that prepares Florida’s students for the 21st century economy.
Gillum won a highly competitive Democratic primary targeting Black voters with an economic message. Gillum selected Chris King, an Orlando businessman and proven entrepreneurial leader, as his running mate, and together, they make a formidable pair of champions for Black communities across the state.
As mayor, Gillum focused on strengthening early child education and wellness, decreasing poverty and crime by connecting communities to job opportunities, attracting capital to the city, investing in Tallahassee’s cultural and social amenities, and developing community partnerships between neighborhoods and police. As Governor of Florida, Andrew Gillum will continue to be an outspoken advocate for promoting economic progress for Black families. The Black Economic Alliance is excited to endorse Gillum.
