The former civil rights attorney, mayor, governor, and current senator has a long history of working to improve the economic condition of the Black community, from creating career and technical training programs to sponsoring legislation to prevent employment discrimination.
Tim Kaine has been a staunch supporter of criminal justice reform in relation to employment, co-sponsoring multiple pieces of legislation that increase support for re-entry employment programs and policies that reduce barriers to re-enter the labor market. A defender of health equity, he supports the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion in Virginia, as well as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food programs. With the objective of developing the most advanced workforce in the world, Tim Kaine has served on the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, and founded the Senate Career and Technical Education (CTE) Caucus.
In both positions, he has sought to improve and strengthen access to career and technical education to ensure that students of all ages are prepared with the skills they need for the jobs of the 21st century. Senator Kaine has committed leading on the BE Alliance’s agenda when he is re-elected to the U.S. Senate.
