WASHINGTON, DC – Black Economic Alliance PAC (BEA PAC), a nonpartisan coalition of business leaders and allies supporting candidates who advance Black economic progress and thereby grow the entire economy, today announced its endorsements of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for governor of New Jersey and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger for governor of Virginia.

Congresswoman Sherrill and Congresswoman Spanberger’s economic agendas align with BEA PAC’s mission to advance solutions that make communities more affordable, support working families, and promote long-term economic opportunity nationwide. They join a growing group of local and state leaders backed by BEA PAC this cycle, including the organization’s first-ever mayoral endorsements of Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, and Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin. That focus is a reflection of the profound impact of state and local policy on expanding Black economic opportunity given that nearly 60% of Black Americans live in just 16 states, and 10 metropolitan areas house over one-third of the Black population.

“Congresswoman Sherrill and Congresswoman Spanberger understand that building a resilient and prosperous economy requires intentional investment in every community — especially those that have been historically left behind,” said Samantha Tweedy, CEO of the Black Economic Alliance. “Their leadership and commitment to expanding economic opportunity make them the clear choices for New Jersey and Virginia voters.”

Congresswoman Sherrill’s Affordability Agenda lays out a plan to lower costs and expand opportunity for New Jersey families. Her priorities include increasing access to loans and tax credits to spur the development and redevelopment of new housing, strengthening first-time homebuyer programs to help young families put down roots, and reducing income taxes by expanding the state Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit.

“I’m honored to earn the Black Economic Alliance PAC’s endorsement and to work alongside leaders who share my commitment to building an economy so everyone can get ahead. It’s gotten too expensive for New Jersey families to afford a home, support their kids, and build a secure future – they deserve a governor who is laser focused on making that possible. As governor, I will fight to lower costs, expand opportunity for our children, close the wealth gap by making housing more affordable, and invest in small businesses to drive economic development in every community,” said Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill

Virginia’s economic challenges have hit Black working-class families hardest– from massive federal job losses to the ripple effects on dependent contractors and small businesses. Congresswoman Spanberger’s Growing Virginia Plan outlines a comprehensive vision for strengthening the Commonwealth’s economy through inclusive growth, job creation, and affordability. Her agenda focuses on expanding workforce training, attracting business investment, and enhancing trade opportunities, while also ensuring every Virginian has access to quality jobs, affordable housing, and raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour.

“I’m deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the Black Economic Alliance PAC,” said Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger. “Throughout my career, I’ve worked to expand opportunities for our Commonwealth by supporting small businesses, creating pathways to good-paying jobs, and investing in communities that have too often been left behind. With the support of BEA PAC, we will continue building an economy that is not just stronger, but fairer—one where Black families and all communities have the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive and create generational wealth.”
